The Windsor Spa Hotel, the former Spa III building, is the oldest spa facility in Karlovy Vary built in 1866, it focuses on traditional spa treatment using local natural resources – thermal mineral water and peloids. The treatment is especially suitable for diseases of the digestive tract, metabolism disorders and locomotive system diseases. The basis of the treatment is a drinking cure and traditional hot mineral baths combined with modern balneological methods such as massages, magnet-therapy, electrotherapy and others.

At the Windsor Spa Hotel, you can experience traditional Karlovy Vary spa treatment: a pool with healing thermal mineral water at a temperature of 36-38 °C. This pool is the only one in hotel surroundings in the Czech Republic.

Mineral water baths were already the main treatment in the past, i.e. in the 16th century. Patients bathed continuously in the healing springs for up to 12 hours… Gradually, however, the baths were replaced with moderate mineral water drinking according to the latest findings of physician, Jan Becker, the founder of modern spa in Karlovy Vary.

Carlsbad mineral water has the following beneficial effects:

Improves the production of bile in the liver and its movement through bile ducts into the duodenum
Normalises the secretion of gastric juices
Has a stimulating effect on external pancreas secretion
Increases digestion activity in the duodenum
Lowers sugar level in blood and urine
Improves acid-base balance in terms of mild alkalisation of the organism
Reduces blood uric acid levels
Has a diuretic effect
Last but not least, it reduces cholesterol levels and other fats in the blood

Twelve Carlsbad healing springs have almost the same chemical composition. They vary only in their temperature (30-72 °C) and the amount of free dissolved carbon dioxide, which also influences the pH of 6.5-7.3.

Carlsbad mineral water isn’t intended for permanent or unregulated use. The daily dose should be recommended by a physician. It should be drunk before meals, preferably during a walk by the springs. You can read more about the Carlsbad springs and colonnades on the link.

Therapies

Inhalation

Ultrasonic inhalation of prepared small particles of mineral water or with the addition of medication, etc. It’s recommended for chronic upper and lower respiratory diseases.

Electro-therapy

Procedure using different types of electric current. Often, its analgesic effect (pain reduction) can replace the medication intake. The general effect is analgesic, myorelaxant, anti-dementia, hyperemization and it improves the nutrition of tissues.

Gum irrigation

A supplement for mechanical oral cavity cleaning – irrigation of the gums, washing the mucous membrane of the oral cavity with 38 °C spring water using a ceramic mouthpiece. It acts as a preventive against periodontitis and gum inflammation.

Lymphatic drainage with instrumentation

Procedura s protiotokovým účinkem využívá střídající se přetlak, který vytlačuje tekutinu z tkáně do cév. Odstraňuje otoky dolních a horních končetin způsobené nedostatečnou funkcí žil nebo lymfatických cév, otoky poúrazové a celulitidu.

Magnetic therapy

A procedure with the magnetic cylinders using the positive effects of the pulsed magnetic field on the human organism. It’s recommended for diseases of the arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels, diseases of the motoric system, diseases of the digestive tract and with degenerative and inflammatory diseases of the nervous system.

Oxygen-therapy

Inhalation of humidified oxygen. It‘s recommended after strokes, heart attacks or heart surgery, people with metabolic disorders, fat metabolism disorder and so on.

Pneumopuncture

The application of a small amount of carbon dioxide by gas injection into subcutaneous tissue – to the places of acupuncture points along the spine and joints. Pneumopuncture leads to a local increase in blood circulation and an effective reduction in painful musculoskeletal syndromes.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound waves, which are applied by means of a head moving on soft-tissues. It’s recommended for chronic joint inflammation and muscle rheumatism.

Peat poultice

A peat poultice is a procedure whereby heat is transferred to the patient’s body. Heated peat from the natural medicinal source at the Krásno deposit – Pure is applied by using an application bag on the affected area.

Paraffin wrap

A procedure using heat transfer during solidification of warmed (55 °C) paraffin mass with admixture of paraffin oil. Recommended for small joint pain due to arthritis.

Peat wrap

A procedure utilising the gradual transfer of mud or peat at a temperature of 46-47 °C to the patient’s body.

Straight peat wrap

The warmed peat from the natural medicinal source in Krásno deposit – Pure is applied directly to the affected area to a thickness of 4 cm. The subsequent wrap prolongs the body’s warm up time. The form of the peat application contains a large number of organic and mineral substances that are delivered to our bodies with the help of thermal support.

Classic massage

Full massage of hands, feet and back or a partial neck and back massage. It supports blood circulation and metabolism. Receptor stimulation leading to improved blood circulation, metabolism and nourishment in the tissues of the massaged area.

Underwater assage

A massage by pressure of water stream combining the effect of a slightly warm bath and massage. It’s recommended for the treatment of diseases of the locomotor system and as a supportive therapy in the treatment of psychosomatic diseases.

Reflective massage

A highly specialised dry hand massage. It stimulates nerve endings in the skin, subcutaneous ligaments and muscles, thereby eliminating reflex changes in the tissues.

Scottish showers

A procedure based on mechanical irritation of the skin with water flow and on the application of heat and cold. It’s used in degenerative diseases of the locomotor apparatus and in functional disorders of blood circulation of the lower and upper extremities.

Pearl bath

A pearl bath in hot water with a temperature of 37 – 38 °C with small air bubbles. By combining the effect of warm bath and micro-massage of the skin with air bubbles, it improves the blood circulation of the tissues and the overall relaxation of the body.

Peat bath

Bath in spring water at 38 °C with admixture of natural peat with significant pressure and thermal effect also on deeply deposited organs. Blood and lymph from the lower limbs are pushed by pressure.

Dry carbon dioxide bath

A procedure based on the positive effect of carbon dioxide (CO₂) on the peripheral circulation of the human organism. CO₂ is applied in a sealed plastic bag (approximately 125 litres of gas), during the procedure the CO₂ content increases in the skin, leading to the enlargement of all blood vessels and at the same time increasing the oxygen content in the blood.

Carbon dioxide bath

A carbon dioxide bath takes places in carbonated, sparkling water, which causes intense local and general blood flow, reduces the blood pressure and leads to psychological relaxation. From a medical viewpoint, the beneficial effects of the carbon dioxide bath on the cardiovascular system and high blood pressure has been confirmed.

Whirlpool

The mechanical swirl of hot water massages the body parts immersed in the tub. A whirlpool bath is suitable for treatment of post-traumatic and post-operative conditions, painful affections of the locomotive system. Intensive massage in pleasantly warm aquatic environment relieves strained muscles and joints and brings relaxation.
